In the mid eighties, Seema moved to the city of Mumbai, where she acted in a number of well-known movies, most notably Jodha Akbar’s Humko. After a few years in Mumbai, Seema moved back to her native Hindi state, Chhatri, to pursue her acting career in Marathi movies. It was here that Seema Shinde first came in contact with the concept of performing Hindi films and even got to perform some of her earliest roles in Marathi movies. Most of these early roles did not pan out, and Seema did not receive much notice in her initial appearances in Hindi films.

In the late eighties, Seema finally managed to break through, and began to appear in a number of popular Marathi movies, most notably Mankatha. However, it was her appearance in Manjishtha (a fantasy film) that really kicked off the ‘Marathi movies in Hollywood’ craze. A hilarious comedy about a princess who has to marry an elephant and her son, Manjishtha turned out to be one of Seema Shinde’s best performing roles, and opened doors for more Marathi movies in Hollywood. Other such notable performances include Kismet Konnection (1986), Kural (1988), Khaleja (1990), Neelkanth (1990), Bhumika (1992), Kavita (1992), Dankra (1993), Anushka (1993), Dushman (1993), Anya (1993), and Anru (1994).

Seema’s name means “honeybee”. Another great feature of Seema’s early work is that all the scenes involving Seema and Babu (Babu Mehandi), a local girl from a small village, are shot on location in Babu’s house. It is here that Babu slowly falls in love with Seema, until finally they are introduced. Seema plays the role of a villainous character in these final scenes, where she threatens to expose Babu’s affair with Seema’s sister, if the latter does not leave Seema alone. Babu does eventually leave Seema, but their relationship remains on the brink of a break-up.

Overall, Seema Shinde Biography is a fun and entertaining movie, which is not only remembered by movie fans, but also by people who know little about Marathi cinema. The film boasts of some great comic scenes, which are laugh-out-loud funny at points, but also includes a few sentimental moments. The film also does a good job at bringing in some more female characters into the world of Marathi cinema, which has often been dominated by male heroes. Overall, Seema is a fun film that just about everyone should watch…
