Early Years Laurie Holden was born in Southern California. Her parents were teachers. She attended Pacific University in nearby Riverside, CA, where she began a theatre career. Career After graduating, Laurie Holden pursued a degree in English at the University of Toronto, Canada, but dropped out to pursue her acting career full time. She remained in Toronto, however, and began working on her first novel, which she released while still a student. The book was not well-received by the Canadian publishing industry, and it was not until her third novel that it was optioned into a literary agent. That novel, entitled Pale Fire, was made into a motion picture and starred Denis Lue popularly known as Jeanette Walls. Before she became a full-time actor, Laurie Holden pursued human rights activism. She was active in the civil rights, women’s rights, and gay rights movements in the United States and Canada.

Personal Life Following a failed attempt to get into film school, Laurie Holden landed on Broadway. She appeared in four shows, all of which were successful. She then went on to have smaller success in Hollywood, playing opposite such Hollywood celebrities as Marlon Brando and Steve McQueen in the action/adventure series Raging Bull. Later, Laurie Holden was part of the casting team behind the movie adaptation of the same show, The Expendables. Following this, she went to Hollywood, appearing in such movies as Dances With Machines and Leaving Las Vegas.

After leaving Hollywood, Laurie Holden pursued writing, producing, and directing, working on projects with such notable individuals as director Clint Eastwood, writer Rob Reiner, and producer Jerry Seinfeld. Her memoir, Walk Me Home, chronicles her personal life. Her book, Living Witty, helps children learn how to make their own living by selling things. Another memoir, published by Random House, is an account of her love of dogs.

Laurie Holden is currently working on a screenplay that will star Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep. In an interesting development, Laurie Holden is also working on a memoir about her mother’s marriage to director Richard Curtis, which will be released in the near future. While her movie career has been minimalistic, her participation in the entertainment industry makes Laurie Holden one of the most successful actresses in the modern era of television.

Laurie Holden is quoted in numerous publications as someone who has achieved success despite being overweight. She has been quoted as saying, “If I’d known how to deal with myself as an overweight person, I would have never gotten involved in show business at all. There’s no way you can put on weight in that kind of environment. I’m very happy with my weight, thank God.”
