As was the case with most families of the time, however, the family failed to hold its place in the social hierarchy and had to find employment. This led to his getting ordained as a judge in the court of justice of the region of Birla on the occasion of his discharge from the office of the district magistrate. This period in his life was notable in terms of the philosophy he developed. It was this philosophy, which would later become integral to his thoughts and concepts of religion, sociology and government. In fact, he was so impressed by the teachings of Kasyani that he named his own philosophy after Kasyani Sutshekhar Ravi, or Kasyani Chandrakala Ravi, as he preferred to call him. Some people refer to him as Chandrakala Ravi Chandrakala.

Subsequently, he went on to become a member of the board of directors of the first private sector company based in Birla, a company that would later become the first of Birla’s public companies, the abounding conglomerate of today called ABB India. He was also a director of the second largest company in the world, the drinks manufacturing giant, Unilever, before retiring. After retirement, he became a member of the board of directors of the newly formed drinks giant, FMC Global, and its current subsidiary, Vedicom, which are today known as Amul. However, one of the reasons for Chandrakala’s association with Vedicom was the fact that he was very close to Sushil Kumar, who used to come to Birla to work with him.

Today, as an entrepreneur, he works from his own company, Chandrakala Energy, which has an office in Birla. During the earlier years of his business career, Chandrakala used to run a small consultancy company, called Trikatu. Since then, he has established himself as an entrepreneur with an array of companies in the Birla and Singapore markets. One of the most important of his current postings is that of managing director of Vedicom, a company which is headquartered in Singapore.

The current post of Chandrakala Energy, which he now holds is as district magistrate of the district of Gurgaon, a position which he has held since 2005. Chandrakala is currently the only non-lawyer to hold this prestigious post. He has been nominated by the incoming prime minister, Mr. Singh, for this post. The position of inspector general of police is one of the highest offices in the police force and it is an unpaid position.
