Qandeel Baloch is a famous Pakistani actress and model. She is popular for her roles in television shows. She rose to stardom during the late 90s due to her roles in prominent television programs. She is an ethnic-western woman who presents strong and glamorous images. Born in Karachi, she moved to England when she was young and studied drama at university.

Qandeel Baloch’s father, Aslam Shaheen, was a famous lawyer. He went to prison after being accused of involvement in the murder of a member of the Indian police force. After getting out of prison, he became a celebrity and Qandeel’s mother, Fazal, took care of her young daughter. She managed to get Qandeel a number of jobs in the media and film industry. Qandeel had several roles on television including an appearance on “The Only Way” (the only Pakistani program ever made available on the eve of the elections), but her best role was in the movie “White Collar.” In this film, she played a character called Nazim Khan, who was the Pakistani wife of an American soldier who disappeared with their child following a firefight in Iraq. The search for her son led Qandeel to discover the truth about her brother’s murder and she subsequently devoted her life to educating other widows in her community. According to reports, Qandeel’s dedication to helping the widows of her community became viral on the internet, which made her a kind of celebrity in the Pakistani society.

Qandeel Baloch has been quoted as saying that being a social media star and a wife of a famous personality, she never expected to become a victim of an honour killing. “I had no idea that this would happen in Pakistan or in the world at large until two years ago when my brother was killed in a drive-by shooting in front of my house,” she told The New York Times. “Now, after two years of working online and blogging, I have learned to embrace social media and use it to help out others who need help. But that does not mean I would let something like my brother’s death is a cause of closure for me.”
