Laya Biography is all about the life and works of Swayambhu Swayambara, a prominent Telugu actor of the twentieth century. Laya is an Indian female actress and dancer who, initially, were known for her performance primarily in Tamil films, alongside Malayalam, Kannada and Kuchipudi. Laya later became a household name with her notable performances in movies such as Laya, Maqbool Fida Husain’s Tintu… and Maqbool Fida Husain’s Yaa Gyari. Laya’s role as an actress made her a name in the world of cinema. She also began a love affair with Rajkumar Swayambara, an award winning Marathi singer. Together they came out with a string of hit songs and went on to have numerous number one hits.
Laya was born in a small village called Thrikakara, in the southernmost part of Karnataka. Her father worked as an assistant to an oil tycoon. Laya’s mother encouraged the actress to pursue her acting career since the then owner of that same oil company was a well-established film star of her time, Yash Chopra. Laya studied at RK School, Hyderabad, and thereafter she joined Kranti College in Thiruvananthapuram. As a student, she maintained a very good academic record, and it was this fact which gave rise to her being named in a famous laya biography of superstar Ashok Kumar.

Laya’s first major role came in the acclaimed Telugu production “Chak De! India” along with Mani Ratnam and Sharukh Khan. This film gave her the opportunity to work with big directors like Yash Raj, Kamal Amrohi and S.S. Rajamouli. Laya later went on to play an important role in the highly popular Telugu movie “Chak De!”
Laya is best known for playing different characters in various successful Telugu and Hindi films. Most notable amongst these are her varied and memorable appearances as the domineering Sita in the Indian version of the television series “agra” and as the quiet, yet spirited Nandimukha in the wildly successful 50 first stage shows she appeared in. All of these characterizations were quite different from her earlier performances in local theater, but they all nonetheless gave her accolades and awards for the work she had done in the field of entertainment. In between her appearances in films and stage shows, Laya also served a short stint in the military, which may account for her early fascination with acting. She rose quickly in the ranks of the armed forces and held numerous distinguished titles during her service.
