Anna Belle Francis was born in Canada to immigrant parents who were originally from France. Her full name is Anna Belle Boujard, and her given name is Hakel. As a child, Anna was also called Hakey Laettcher and was reported to have been very thin, with long straight brown hair, which is reported to have been black when she was an infant. She has consistently stated that her birth name was Hakel, though this name has never been used in any published media, nor on her official MySpace or Facebook accounts.

Anna Belle was born in Singapore and has maintained a strong interest in both culture and art, throughout her life. She began studying art at Raffles College in Singapore when she was only 18 years old, before taking up vocal coaching in Australia.
