Consequently, Zubeida made up with the girls in the class but was always self-conscious about her physical looks.

After a few years in Delhi, Zubeida returned to her native village, where she met an older man who gave her the desire she had for many years. Zubeida’s friends helped her to take part in communal riots, where she survived sniper fire, burning bullets, iron rod abuse, being hit in the head by a motorcycle bomb that demolished a house, etc. After the riots, Zubeida managed to escape to the United States on the ship Vanda, which was headed towards Bethlehem. Eventually, Zubeida and her friend Hema saved enough money to board the ship Amol, which left for Argentina.

On the ship, Zubeida met and fell in love with Achzar’s brother Haidar, who was in the Israeli army. Zubeida did not want to marry a man who was not a soldier, as she considered herself a Muslim by religion and did not want to be associated with soldiers of the Jews. The Israelis arrested Zubeida and took her to Jerusalem to be prosecuted under the law of khidum – kidnapping a woman to serve as a sexual slave. This brought more trouble for Zubeida, as her friends tried to save her, but to no avail.

Zubeida was given twenty lashes, but the worst part of the story was that after her arrest, the Israelis decided to execute her in a public place, in front of a large group of witnesses. Her friends tried to stop the execution, but were beaten back. Seeing this, Achzar called Zubeida and informed her of what was going to happen. Zubeida was frantic but decided not to save herself. Instead, she went to the bathroom, threw herself on the ground, and died at the hands of her executioners.

Zubeida was buried in a tomb that belonged to her great-grandfather, and her grave is still visited to this day by Zubeida’s descendants. Achzar had planned to execute Zubeida as a way of revenge for her husband being murdered by the Israelis, but his plan was foiled when Haidar was recaptured and executed in the same manner as Zubeida was. The world was not interested in finding out that Achzar’s great-grandfather was a Jew by blood, or that he had been a slave to the Arabs. Zubeida’s death was just another point on which the world wanted to put the blame.
