Although her stories are politically correct at times, you do not feel like you are taking a leaf out of the headlines while reading them. This is in fact one of the best things about “Mansaar”.
In this book, one finds a glamour at its best as the main characters indulge in eating disorders, drink too much and even engage in love affairs. Sanjeeda Sheikh was born near but grew up in Karachi, Pakistan. Her mother always encouraged her to grow taller by pushing her to grow taller. This caused Sanjeeda to suffer from self-esteem issues, and she always longed for a height increase.
Even after being a grown up, women still feel the need for a certain height and this is what “Mansaar” helps provide for. The author tells of how her love for bigger breasts led her to devise an exercise regime to increase her bra size. However, this plan backfired as her bra size was too big for a conservative society and she was ridiculed along with her attempts at increasing her bra size. Instead of backing down, Sanjeeda decided that she would rather be known for more than her size. She thus applied for and obtained a scholarship to study medicine in America. After getting a degree, she pursued a career as a cardiologist in New York City.
