Julie Bovasso was an American model and actress of both stage and screen, who have also been an acclaimed Broadway director. In fact, among her many television and movie roles, she’s most recognized for her role as John Travolta’s love interest in Saturday Night Fever. The character was so iconic it inspired the casting of a young Dustin Hoffman in the film version of the same name as well as the singer Cher.

Born in Brooklyn, New York Julie Bovasso grew up studying theater and even appeared in a production of Guys and Dolls as a child. After high school, she went to study acting at the University of Southern California, graduating with a degree in English. During this time she also became a stage manager, working with such names as Frank Capra and Edith Piaf. While in college Bovasso also began modeling, landing jobs in catalogs and fashion shows. However, her career most reached mainstream audiences when her classmate, John Travolta, cast her in his Saturday Night Fever film.

Julie Bovasso went on to star in the films Saturday Night Fever (with Steve McQueen) and Moonstruck, both of which became major box office hits. She also appeared in the musical Dirty Sexy Money, playing the role of Corrine Whitmore. While these films did not quite achieve the success that Saturday Night Fever and Moonstruck did, they are Bovasso’s only screen credits to date.

On the evening of the sixteenth, the Bovasis arrived at the studio just in time for the first performance of their daughter’s play, A Sunday Romance. During the play the actress received a phone call from her good friend, September, who told her that her play was being canceled due to some unidentified “courageous” audience members complaining.

The next day, the play went on as planned. Then on the morning of the day of September twenty-one, Julie Bovasso passed away from a massive heart attack brought on by stress. This tragic day has become known as the “Julie Bovasso death” in New York City. Many people believe that this tragic death was somehow connected to the September of September fourteen when the playwright received a phone call from his good friend, September.
