According to Swara Bhaskar biographer showing Swara Bhaskar age family and studies, her maternal grandfather on one side and her first-born brother on the other side both studied medicine with the renowned doctor Hema Swadhyaya at Jawaharlal Nehru University. She was studying economics along with her family. Later in her early twenties, while she was going through a course at Indira Gandhi National College, Lucknow, she met and fell in love with Indian director Shimit Amin and moved in with him, which was rumored to be arranged by some of her film star friends from Jawaharlal Nehru University. This was the beginning of the end for Swara Bhaskar as Amin was accused of sexual harassment and later he was murdered in Amin’s home by some unidentified assailant.
Besides her studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, she also studied English at Ruparel College near Pune. There was a rumor that Amin had planned to make films with some Chinese girls from the college who were English as well, but this turned out to be false. Instead Amin wrote a number of best selling books of fiction and biographies and was one of the most popular writers of that time. After working on a series of popular romances and comedies, Swara Bhaskar finally decided to make a foray into political activism and join the B.A.S. Foundation, which aims at empowering women through education. Following the completion of her schooling, she worked as a consultant for B.A.S.F and began to advocate for the rights of women in politics, media, business and entrepreneurship. She has travelled extensively around India and speaks extensively about Indian women’s rights and responsibilities and how the patriarchal society affects them. Today, Swara Bhaskar is well known as a strong supporter of women’s rights and is active in several charitable organizations.
