Sharmila Tagore was married to Pakistani actor Sayyed Qutub Minar Khan, at the time of her marriage. She had three children, who are now grown up. Her marriage to Khan was, by all accounts, amicable, even though some family members in India attempted to get the then prime minister of Pakistan to get her back after her marriage. She bore him a child in their marriage, named Dulaira, who is a doctor in medicine. Her daughter, Labhana, is now a successful actress in her own right. Both these women are active in their charity foundation, which aims to help underprivileged women in various communities across the world.
Her two most popular films are “Mansoor Ali Pataudi”, which were written by her son, Sharmila Tagore; and “inker Bell”, which were directed by her daughter, Labhana. She has also worked extensively in television, playing different characters, including an actress on a popular soap opera in India, as well as a dancer on a popular national television program. These roles have helped her achieve a reputation as one of India’s best and most accomplished actresses.
Sharmila Tagore had a very distinguished career in film and television, which are evidenced by the fact that she is listed in the roster of India’s most popular actresses of all time, in the list of “Indian Popular actresses of all time” in the National Film Registry. She has also won numerous awards for her screenplays, poems, novels and other writing contributions. Her most memorable role was in the Hindi movie, “Chak De! India” as Priyadarshan, opposite Aishwarya Rai. She was also nominated for the same award in the same category in the first season of the Satellite television show, “aired on Aaliya.” The Telugu version of this movie is widely considered to be better than the Hindi version.
Apart from her illustrious filmography, Sharmila Tagore also has contributed articles in many popular magazines, as well as guest posts in newspapers around the country and the world. She has also been a guest speaker at various international conferences, including the World Economic Conference in Washington, D.C. and the World AIDS Conference in Melbourne, Australia. At Hyderabad’s prominent Bidri Dasa Park, people gathered to celebrate the birth of Sharmila. This park is a memorial for Indian freedom fighters, who were killed in theistani partition movement. Today, Bidri Dasa plays an important role in shaping the youth identity of the state of Hyderabad.
