Through this biographer’s research, we are provided with yet another example of how even unfortunate victims can be transformed into something positive by overcoming all the odds.

I do have one minor complaint with the ending of the book. Roopa Ganguly repeatedly emphasizes that she has no regrets about her relationship with Ananda Coomaraswamy even though the latter ended their affair and separated from her. The way she ends the book, however, hints otherwise. What was meant to be a thank you note to the former model for sharing her views on fashion and society ends up being a justification for a characteristically cheeky ending?

I did not care for the character of Roopa Ganguly as much as I thought that her characterisation lacked substance. Perhaps this is due to her limited screen time, but this does not change the fact that she is a fascinating character. I am certain that we will see more of Roopa Ganguly in future biographies as people continue to read her stories. Her quotes in this book will go down as classics in Indian literature. I highly recommend this book to people who have an interest in Indian history and culture as well as people who like a lively read.
