She was born in Jakarta, Indonesia. She was just a baby when World War II end.
She was just a child when World War II ended. At such young age, she gained international prominence for her performance as an Indonesian girl in a British film called “North Remembers”. However, she soon became a famous actress in Singapore, especially for her leading role in “Singapore: Through the Looking Glass” which was released in 1960. She went on to make notable appearances in “Rebecca Loaded”, “My Fair Lady”, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, “Dr. Wu” and “Babette’s Secretaries”.

Nora Samosir had been an aspiring actor since childhood. She studied ballet at Raffles University before deciding to try out her hand at acting in Singapore. She appeared in several films including “The Mysterious Lady” and “The Mysterious Man”. Her first big break came in “Singapore: Through the Looking Glass” where she played the role of Pyrex Dish. This was the first time that a non – Singaporean actor was cast in the role of Pyrex Dish in a movie in Singapore. This also became the first film, wherein the then director, Lee Kuan Chee came to know about Nora’s beautiful face and her extraordinary talent as an actress.
Nora was nominated for the best supporting actress award for her performance in “Singapore: Through the Looking Glass”. She later went on to win the same award for her performance in “Clerks”. At the 2021 Film Festival, she received the Best Supporting Actress award for her work in this film. It is common knowledge that Nora Samosir has Indian origins and as such has always been applauded for her bold moves and portrayals of women’s empowerment in Singaporean society.
Nora’s filmography would not be complete without the mention of her two-year stint as the supermodel, Hildegard of Furnace. Hildegard of Furnace was well renowned in both Europe and Asia for her amazing and iconic body, and beauty. Though a very humble woman, Hildegard was able to manage a successful acting career despite her early gender issues. It was through her association with world-class designers that led to her becoming one of the most in-demand models in the world today. As a singer, Nora Samosir has achieved great success and has been nominated for a number of awards, including the Best Female Vocal Performance at the Satellite Awards. Her voice production skills have also seen her score a number of high-budget films including the horror movie “The Devil’s Advocate” and the award-winning TV serials, The Last Paradise. Her international career has therefore seen her come to the attention of the global music industry and to the stage and screen.
