Though the movie didn’t exactly hit the box office, it paved the way for many other notable performances in Hindi movies. In the meantime, she appeared in other shows on television. Those roles led her to her first major acting career in the mid-nineties, when she appeared in Kismet Konnection, Vibhafiyar Kohli and Tika Duddha. Madiha Imam did not stay in Bollywood for long, however. She joined the much heralded Paks Dehra Daredevi team and has gone on to become one of the most popular actresses in India today. Her name is synonymous with action-adventure and is best known for her leading roles in Heera, Kaal Bhat and Tees Maar Khan. Her action-packed films have won Madiha imam multiple awards, including the best actress award at the 2021 Oscars.

A few months before the February 12th deadline for Pakistan’s nationwide plebiscite, the famous actress had announced that she will not take part in the poll. This comes as a surprise, given the widespread celebrations. This is not the first time that Madiha Imam has refused to take part in a national election. Earlier this year, she was sidelined by the PML-N party in an attempt to prevent the plebiscite. It was her second choice, after Sohana sharoon Bedi, who was chosen by the PML-Pawat. Bedi is seen as a more viable option for PML-PN, as many Indians believe that Sohana Bedi is too much of a mainstream figure and is seen as being too much in sync with the Pakistan’s rural backyards.

As of this writing, Madiha Imam is the second most popular female actor in Pakistan’s film industry. After Sohana Bedi, she is the most popular female character in the entire PML-PN slate. The choice of her character in Kismet Konnection is interesting in a few ways. First, it is interesting that she refuses to take part in the plebiscite, while simultaneously celebrating its occurrence. The other interesting twist is that she has been depicted as the epitome of a Pakistani woman since the inception of television – always portrayed as independent and strong, even if married to an Indian man. It is interesting that in this day and age, the choices of women are becoming more progressive and open, while Madiha Imam’s decision to boycott the plebiscite is rather unfortunate.

Madiha Imam’s acting skills are on the same level as Sohana Bedi’s. However, her choice of career is rather unfortunate, given that in Pakistan we celebrate the fact that we have great actresses like Madiha Imam – a famous actress in India – who are also celebrated for their acting skills. Therefore, the boycott of Madiha Imam by the PML-PN and her choice of profession is rather unfortunate. Given the way Bollywood is doing business these days, one would expect that Madiha Imam and Sohana Bedi would have been chosen to be among the best in Pakistan cinema. But given the kind of career that they have chosen for themselves, one cannot really blame the PML-PN and the government on this decision.
