Lorraine Bracco was born in Brooklyn, New York on the Second of October, 1954. She was the middle child of three children. She was very close to her younger sister and younger brother. She attended public school as a young child, then went on to study art at college, graduating in 1960. After that she went to work for several years in New York City as an illustrator, writer and translator before she settled into writing full time.

How did you get your start as a writer? I started as a writer because my father was a great teacher and used to tell me stories and that fascinated me. I used to collect soap opera reruns and would watch them with my father and imitate the characters. After I moved out of my parents house, I continued to write ever since, first in my journal and then as a published author.

Where do you live now, in New York or LA? I live in New York City and have been lucky enough to be able to do a lot of traveling and work in television. I also owned several publishing houses, which helped me a lot when I was starting out, including publishing two novels: The Naked Face – a mystery story and The Hard Way – a western story.

Describe your acting career so far. I’m not an actor and yet I’m known as the “comedian” on “Last Comic Standing.” I didn’t win any awards when I was on television but what I did have going for me was being a favorite writer and performer among my peers. When I finished filming the third season of my soap opera, I was asked to do a special episode of “Last Comic Standing” where I was supposed to be interviewed and was up for the challenge.

What was it like being on the season 1 finale of “The Biggest Loser?” What were you given to do to land the job? What did you learn about yourself and your future? I learned that I needed to keep working on my body if I wanted to keep acting. I also learned that I should consider selling my television series because it wasn’t going to be around forever.
