A biographer’s job is to interpret the story of a person. In the case of Krishna, the biographer will attempt to interpret his life and teachings through his writings. While some biographers have made Krishna a hero and a national hero, others have portrayed him as nothing more than a religious icon. It is in the course of this interpretation that Krishna’s actual character can be understood.

A Krishna Kumari biography starts with her birth. At almost exactly the same time as she was born, her parents announced that they would be married. As a result of this, her mother took an unusual measure to ensure that her child would be married by the Indian Royal family. She took the necessary steps to ensure that her daughter would be married in her father’s absence, which meant that she was able to live a married life in India despite her parents’ decision.

When Krishna was a young child, she was very much like the other girls in the home. All the other girls were given a new name and given new clothes. Krishna was named Ksheerakya. This was because she was the shortest child in the family. The reason that she was the shortest was that her measurements were calculated using the traditional Indian measurement system, which placed girls of the same age at roughly the same height to be two fingers of one inch. Krishna was therefore two fingers shorter than all of her sisters.

Krishna’s stepfather then took Krishna away from the house, but she managed to sneak back to the family home one evening to celebrate the final separation of her stepfather from her father.

Krishna then spent the next three and a half years studying yoga, reading ancient Hindu texts and getting a great deal of her knowledge about the dimensions of life from Hindu texts and from her studies on the internet. After completing her master’s degree in the ancient art of yoga at Rishikesh, she decided that she wanted to pursue a career in teaching Yoga with an aim to help people who had physical ailments.
