An aspiring star was Jackie Joseph’s very possibility at an early age, after all, her father was a well-known and respected local contractor. Jackie had always dreamed of one day being an actress, and after her father died in a car crash, Jackie took a chance on going to Los Angeles. She entered a contest run by the Producers Guild of that year in order to find out what role she’d had in her first feature film. Although Jackie didn’t win the contest, her performance was considered to be amongst the best of the entire show. Her performances ended up leading to roles in other popular films such as Rosemary Clooney in Man on the Moon, as well as stints in minor movies and television shows.
One of Jackie Joseph’s first major roles was in a much less mainstream film, but still a good one, called The Night Before, which were made by Warner Bros. During this film, Joseph played the title role of Vivienne Pittman, a young fashionista who ran away from home to New York City. Jackie was also in one other notable film during her career, known as Gremlins 2. This movie served as the sequel to the much popular, and less successful, movie that was released in 1984. The second film was a hit among children, adults, and even nostalgic children. As of today, Gremlins are still one of the most sought after film franchise, with new movies being produced almost yearly.
Jackie Joseph also had quite a bit of acting experience before breaking into the Hollywood scene, having appeared in some less than serious films before. One of those films was The Heartbreak Kid, in which she played the role of teenager Patti LaBelle, who fell in love with an older man. The heartbreak in this film involved her separation from her two children, who were at the time staying with their grandparents.
After this break from serious theater work, Jackie Joseph settled into more singing and acting work, appearing in various popular songs throughout the decade. Some of these included such hits as “Blue Suede Shoes” and “Guess How Much I Love You.” Throughout the late sixties and the seventies, she would also star in some lesser-known films, such as Love Actually. Finally, she would appear in one of the greatest movies of all time, Someone to Watch Over Me. This would be followed by several other films that saw her shine as a leading character in a variety of genres. In fact, over the course of her career, Jackie Joseph would also find success in more comedic roles, such as a love interest in George Clooney’s character in The Perfect Score, an ensemble cast in Rent, and an uncredited role in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
