Grace Gummer grew up in an energetic family in which her mother, a talented writer, performed stand-up comedy whenever Grace needed a pick-me-up. Her father, a renowned theatre director, gave Grace regular doses of her mother’s jokes and observations and encouraged her in many of the artistic and writing activities that she enjoyed. Grace Gummer studied acting at the University of Southern California, graduating in 1998, but did not get any theatre experience until she began working on a Broadway play after play. After five years on the Broadway stage, and several more off Broadway appearances, she finally received her first American theatre break when she was cast opposite original musical favourite Marily Oppenheimer in the revival of “Fiddler on the Roof”, a play that ultimately went on to become one of the longest running shows in history.

Grace Gummer returned to Broadway in the following year’s production of “Hairspray” for a second season. Then she completed the role of “Malibu” in the second season of the hit television series CSI, playing the title role for the second year in a row. Grace Gummer then landed herself a role on the long-running soap opera The Mentalist opposite Tom Selleck, playing the cynical, socially inept therapist, psychiatrist and therapist, respectively. Her notable supporting characters on both CSI and The Mentalist have included Dr. Melfi Lerman, an uptight science teacher; Constance Wilson, a spunky attorney; and David Hyde Pierce, a calculating psychiatrist with questionable tactics.

Grace Gummer returned to Hollywood in the third season of the popular soap opera Criminal Minds, playing the recurring role of a prostitute for Matt Murdock. She had previously appeared on the show as a dancer on Broadway, so her appearance on the show was quite a leap for her. Grace also appeared in the animated movie Kung Fu Panda as a warrior who starred alongside a number of other famous martial arts fighters from the Kung Fu Panda film franchise. Grace Gummer has also appeared in a number of high profile films, including the remake of Beauty and the Beast, and the television series Deadwood.

Grace Gummer may be just another actor waiting for her turn in the limelight, but she already has her own niche within the acting world. As the resident of California, Grace has a large following of devoted followers, which is apparent in the fact that she received the Best Actor award at the 2021 Academy Awards. Grace Gummer is set to appear in the fifth installment of the Insomnia franchise, tentatively titled “Ivan”, for Netflix. A release date for the fifth installment of the “Ivan” series has yet to be confirmed.
