Gajala however made a great start with Hindi films such as Kaal Bhai Dooj, Namastey London and later in Tamil Yuvyi Yomi. Gajala’s path towards acting however went stagnant and she did not find any success until she was cast in a Telugu production which later became Madhumati. Gajala then showed some good performances in Kamal Amrohiya and eventually became one of the most sought after actresses in Telugu.

Gajala was born in Shimla in the state of Himachal Pradesh in India and is a fluent member of the Hindi language. Gajala was a member of the minority community called the Nari Indian community during the time of partition and was known for her beautiful complexion. Gajala’s early years were marked by the violence and turmoil that had taken place in her home country of India. In her book Naro’s Book she writes about how her community was divided into two sections, the Oids and the Twelves. Gajala was educated in Shimla where she began to acquire some of the Indian languages and this also enabled her to learn some of the Telugu dialogues.

Gajala’s biography has given the readers a rare insight into the real life of an acclaimed personality. Gajala was married to prominent politician AP Jha in the early twentieth century. After Jha’s death she was married to AP Jagganath, a much revered leader who is considered to be a mahatma or a sage in his community. Gajala managed to live a full and successful life despite the partition of India and the murder of her husband. She is survived by her three children.
