Gabrielle was one of the original members of what is now known as the Actors Union. The AFT was an organization dedicated to promoting the careers of actors in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Her association with the AFT gave her an opportunity to be involved in the organization’s activities. She participated in the group’s fundraising efforts and was also an active member of the local American Association of Repertory Theatre. She served on the boards of the theaters in New York as well as the American Federation of Theater actors in Los Angeles. All of this was related to her performance as the trade union leader in the first seasons of the 90s television show Beverly Hills, 90210.
Gabrielle was able to continue working on both shows throughout the years because of her steady work on both. As an actor, she has appeared in various notable television shows including House, Law and Order and L. J. Smith. It was in the second season of ER that her contribution to the television community as the character of Carters began. Carteris portrayed Carters, an organized and hard-working newspaper editor who was overweight and worked as an unseen staff writer for the newspaper. The character’s duties included writing articles about local events, world events, local gossip and anything else that could happen in the area.
In the eighth episode of the television show Beverly Hills, Carteris had a chance to have an episode where she would portray someone who had a Greek heritage. This person was Zetto, a Sicilian waiter who appeared to be part Greek and half Italian. Carteris chose to play this part because she thought it would be interesting to have someone of Greek descent working in an office in Beverly Hills. The character of Zetto was made completely out of costume and the writers took notes on the various aspects of the culture of Sicily while designing the character of Zetto.
Gabrielle Carteris has not only appeared on one of the popular daytime talk shows, but has also been seen on a number of other television programs including the Today Show. She is currently appearing on the second season of the reality show The Apprentice. It is common for older actors to try and broaden their talent and appear on television shows, but it is rare for them to choose something specifically to suit their personality and interests. Carteris has chosen to do just that, by studying ballet and acting. Her ability to blend these two talents into one may be what makes her such an interesting and talented actress.
