Eleanor Lee is a Singaporean singer, actress and model first born to Chinese artiste Quan Yi Fongs and Peter Yu, who were both from the Ming Dynasty in China. Her birth name was Eleanor Yip Man. She later became known as Eleanor Lee and became famous for her roles in films, cartoons and television shows. She is also a singer and songwriter.
Eleanor Lee grew up in the tiny fishing village of Pulau Ubin as the children of fishermen. Her father, on the other hand, was a well to do lawyer who taught her the values of hard work and education. Lee would attend the prestigious University of London at undergraduate level, before becoming a professional singer. After getting married in 1965, she moved to Britain, where she appeared in a number of television shows, including Granada, Britain’s answer to Hollywood. After a failed stint in British television, she decided to move to her native Singapore, and there she earned a reputation as an exotic and interesting character in local theatre.

In the late sixties, she went to Hong Kong with her mother to study the Chinese language. She became a proficient speaker, and in the late seventies went to the United States to study classical Chinese, and to make contact with Chinese Americans. Later in the eighties, Lee went back to England to study singing. By this time she was a classic singer, well known for her enchanting vocals, which were an alternative to western music. Lee has since gone on to develop a stage career, and in recent times she has been an actress and singer, best known for her performances in movies such as Mermaids and Mulan.
Although Lee is not mentioned by name in any of these media, all of these people from her past are mentioned and often in passing, as she has become well known in the Asian community. Some people have described her as having an American accent. The reason for this is that the majority of people who speak English in Singapore (and other countries) actually possess a Chinese-sounding or Cantonese-sounding speech pattern. The use of an American accent is seen as somewhat insulting in some circles.
On the October 12th, Eleanor Lee made an appearance on the cover of “People” magazine, and this was not a very good look for the starlet. Her arms remained small, as if she was trying to hide them behind heavy makeup, and her face was pale and sunken, with dark circles around her eyes. Some have suggested that this was done as a result of an operation, but this remains unconfirmed. It was also widely reported that her manager had suggested that she lose some weight, and this may have been one of the reasons why her body measurements were low.
There was also some criticism directed at the manner in which Eleanor Lee had been dressed for the “People” interview. She wore a skirt, rather than a cocktail dress, and sat with her legs crossed – something which is inappropriate for an aspiring actress. This controversy has been discussed online, and various theories have been put forward as to the reasons for the choice of attire. One of the more common ones is that she may have been wearing low cut pants in order to camouflage her flat stomach.
