Following the success of “Fantasy Island,” Diane Baker decided to make a feature length animated film and called it “Dancing with the Stars.” The film was not successful at the box office, but was a sensation with children and adults alike. Following the success of “Dancing With the Stars,” Diane Baker decided to make a series of movies centered on the life of singer-dancer-actor Diana Ross. The films were only successful in part due to Ross’s death, just before the release of the second movie in the series, “Dangerous” was released.
Following the release of “Dangerous,” Diane Baker decided to concentrate on portraying wholesome characters in movies such as “Charmed” and “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street.” However, despite her successes, Baker also faced a number of personal problems. For example, in 1960 she married Richard Nixon’s son. Richard Nixon had been an actor before he became President. Baker had a difficult time adjusting to her new role as First Lady.
After a difficult time adjusting to her new job as First Lady, Diane Baker was diagnosed with cancer. Diagnosis was unclear at first due to a shortage of conclusive evidence. Nevertheless, tests soon proved that Diane Baker did, in fact, have cancer of the larynx. It was revealed that her tumor was the result of the same cells that were present in the brains of her deceased friend and fellow Hollywood star, Hitchcock.
Ultimately, Diane Baker passed away from throat cancer at the age of fifty-four. The public was notified of her demise through a funeral service held a day after her death. Numerous obituaries were published throughout the country in order to compensate her friends and family for her loss. Nine hours after her death, actress Joan Collins presented Diane Baker with a private tribute in Hollywood.
