The daughter of famed author Mario Puzo, Clare Carey is well known as an actress, writer, director and producer. She is perhaps best known for her leading role as the cynical, broken yet lovable character, Olive Sander in the movie, The Sopranos. She also appeared in a number of movies including Big andarella; as well as guest spots on Law and Order and several episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Her work as an actress spans several decades and has earned her awards for her work in movies. She has also won Golden Globe Awards for her work in movies including Camelot and Gladiator.

Clare Carey was born in Los Angeles, California on June 11, 1967. Her parents, Robert and Ida Mankini, were posthumously awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She was one of six children born to Italian immigrants in Roseland, Oregon. Clare was named after her birth town of Claremont, Oregon.

One of Clare’s earliest memories is watching her father on television at age 2. She can still remember watching the opening credits of the Gemini Six radio series from WLS in Chicago, Illinois. She can still vividly recall her father’s gravelly voice, his mischievous twitches, and his cynical wit. This work as a radio personality began when she was just a young girl watching her parents when they presented a play together. During the play she would listen with avidly as her parents described their hometown and would later learn she’d be one of the models for the characters in one of her father’s plays.

Clare was one of five children of Mario Puzo. Puzo was a famous author who wrote a number of popular novels, as well as screenplays. He loved cats and had two of them living with him in his home. Clare’s younger brother, Michael, was very fascinated by Puzo’s cats and could not understand why his father showed so much affection for these creatures. Clare soon came to enjoy being around Puzo’s cats, even though Michael often tried to get his attention by touching or petting the cats.

Clare’s childhood and teenage years were spent in poverty as a result of her parents divorce and inability to support them. After her parents divorced, Clare spent much of her early years living with her grandmother and other family members until she was old enough to find work. She was able to find employment as a waitress at a restaurant in Claremont, California, but found it hard at first to maintain a job after she got pregnant. In her senior year, however, she was able to help open a beauty salon in the area.

Clare was a television actress prior to her marriage to Richard Cabellini, Jr., on the popular sitcom Webster. She had a three-season stint on this popular series, which resulted in four episodes. Her character, Corin, was very attractive for a television actress at that time, as she was built very differently than other characters in the show. Her co-stars included Edie Falco, John Ritter, and John Bon Jovi. Clare had some trouble trying to find work in her role due to this, and it was not until she received a call from Richard Cabellini, Jr. that she was given a chance to return to the show. She ended up playing the mother of one of Richard Cabellini’s children, Ryan.
