C Cathy Lee Crosby was raised to believe that her father was much happier when their marriage ended than she was. It only made matters worse for her, as her father was always trying to prove a woman was his wife. He used to drag her to all sorts of “entertainment” events in order to prove that he had the skills needed to be an actor. As a child, C Cathy never believed him. But as an adult, her admiration for her father grew and by the time she was a teenager, she was ready to admit that she loved her father.

Growing up in the New York/New Orleans area in the 1980s, C Cathy Lee Crosby had a number of roles on television including an award winning actress role on the popular TV show Laverne & Me. However, her acting career didn’t really take off until she gained stardom playing an aging Lupus sufferer on the long running sitcom Webster. Her performance of this character won her awards from the Writers Guild of America as well as the Satellite Network. In addition, her professional tennis game took off and she was an immediate success as a four-time Division I tennis player. This successful career would earn Lee a number of honors including the American Sports Writers Association’s Female Achievement Award.

But it was her appearance on Broadway that brought C Cathy Lee Crosby’s acting career to the forefront. After successfully completing several successful theater performances, she decided to focus on directing and produce a film. The lead role in the film adaptation of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” was Lee’s second chance at stardom after “A Christmas Carol.” Although the film failed to garner any type of notice, it did help to launch her career. And even though “A Christmas Carol” was not a box office hit, its legacy still lives on as “A Christmas Carol” is still viewed by millions of people today.

The true strength of “A Christmas Carol” is seen in its depiction of the everyday life of Carol Burnett, a single mother of twelve who moves into the run down, impoverished neighborhoods of Depression-era New Orleans. But what also stands out about “A Christmas Carol” is the remarkable depth of character that Lee does display, allowing audiences to sympathize for the girl who simply wants her children to have a good Christmas. It is this authenticity that makes “A Christmas Carol” a classic and a modern-day classic. This is an important lesson that we can learn from the many women and girls who are fighting the fight against domestic violence today. If we want our daughters, our sons, and our friends to have a better future, we need to be proactive in standing up for them, and “A Christmas Carol” gives director Leeanne Crosby a lesson in how to make a difference.

Rosemary Clooney is the latest celebrity to come out as a lesbian, after coming out in the last year or so. Like Cathy Lee Crosby, she too was deeply moved by the plight of the characters in “A Christmas Carol.” And like Rosemary and Cathy, Clooney made history as the first openly lesbian celebrity to appear in a major motion picture.

Whether or not you agree with her political views, we can still learn a lot from Catey Lyle Crosby’s courage. When she first appeared in “A Christmas Carol,” it was because of an accident that would change her career forever. When she was cast as the youngest daughter in “utherie,” the studio head had a problem with the film citing nudity when it showed her legs. But when Catey came to shoot the scene wearing a one-piece swimming suit, the film director changed her wardrobe to a more conservative outfit. This, in turn, changed the entire movie.

Regardless of whether or not you agree with Catey’s political views, the fact remains that she did not choose to be an actor in order to promote certain views, nor did she choose to star in a movie in order to gain publicity. She chose to be a tennis player, and we owe that choice to her. Her example to us all is that no matter what we choose to do, we can still achieve what we want, despite what someone else wants to do. Catey Crosby certainly is a winner and we should all be proud of her for that.
