Bharati Vishnuvardhan is a Punjabi writer. He is known for his short stories and novels, most notably the award-winning Mona Lisa and the book Marich’s Man. In this book, he presents a biographical sketch of Gandhi and a description of Gandhi’s life and times. It was later turned into a play as well, entitled After Gandhi.
The first three chapters cover the childhood and schooling of Gandhi. In the same chapter, he mentions about his family, his friends, teachers and other people who helped shape and mold him. The fifth chapter covers Gandhi’s conversion to vegetarianism, hiscaste, treatment of blacks and whites, his rejection of armed struggle, his death and induction into politics. Finally, we come to the last chapter, which is an obituary. It provides a timeline and gives some biographical details about Gandhi’s siblings. It ends with a portrait of Gandhi that depicts his personality and characteristics. This is the shortest biography of Gandhi available and the book is therefore lacking in bibliography and index.

She was a secretary in Gandhi’s office and was one of the few women who knew about his inner life and the inner activities of the Gandhi family. In her book, Nivedita describes Gandhi’s childhood and schooling and how she came to know of the legendary leader. She portrays Gandhi as a bold personality, with little concern for social norms and a big dose of idealistic belief. Amritinder also describes the inner conflict that Gandhi experienced while he was leading the Indian freedom movement.
Gita is the biographer of Subhas Chandra Bose, who was a prominent leader of the independence movement in India. She describes Gandhi as a fiery leader who played a key role in the freedom movement. Gita narrates many incidents and scenes from Gandhi’s life and helps us understand the man as he lived and talked. This is a short book that is known to endearing to readers.
Ramachandra Tagore is a Nobel Prize nominated writer who wrote a novel based on the life of Gandhi. This is a short book that does not have much of a story but is full of facts and images that help us understand the man and his philosophies. It is a beautifully illustrated book that appeals to all generations and is a must read for all. It tells the story of a young Gandhi who changed his path to become a nationalistic leader of India and how he overcame his childhood rejection. A must read for all.
