Babita Biography is an informative book on the life and works of Bollywood’s first lady – Babita. Born in 1917, Babita was married to the film director Shankaracharya Swarup Gandhi. There, Babita was pursued by local women who wanted to make her marry them so they could have a child of their own. However, Babita refused, saying that she had no desire to tie the knot with any woman other than her husband. Local women grew increasingly annoyed and frustrated with Babita, to the extent that one of them – perhaps her best friend – poisoned her on the day she turned 16. However, it was not until her marriage to Ravi Verma that Babita’s true path to stardom began to unfold. Although her performance was not exactly spectacular, nor did it earn her any notices or critical acclaim, but it did help propel Babita and her film career into high gear. Tamil cinema, and Babita in particular, were an easy source of money for the then dowry-ridden and highly unpopular Verma.

It was not until Babita’s third film, titled Babita and Daddy, that she started getting notice from the international film industry. It was here that Babita made her first big break, playing the lead role in a well-received Hindi film, Baahubali. The film, which depicts a fictional Babita’s quest for revenge against her evil stepmother and her brother who happen to be her killers, went on to gross close to five hundred and sixty million dollars worldwide. It is perhaps this success that had the then dowry-ridden Verma seeking to find a means of earning some additional income and so begin a brand new career path in social media. Although Babita didn’t manage to garner any significant box office hits along the way, her three films did go on to rake in millions of dollars at the box office.

One of Babita’s first and most notable roles was in the award winning, Raising Helen, a teleplay written by her husband, S.S. Rajamouli. The interesting part of this story is that it was Babita who suggested the film is made into a social media franchise, rather than one focused on her career. As it turns out, Babita’s efforts did pay off with a very successful series of movies, including the equally successful Babita and Daddy; which earned her yet another six Filmfare Award nominations.
