Anjuman started her career after she acted in some small movies that failed to do well in the industry. She then appeared in some well-known movies like Aabara, Dab ka Ghazab Kahani and Nazr, before winning her first major role in Anjuman, playing the lead role. She went on to play different characters in several other successful films including Anjuman, Chandana and Kismet. Anjuman later played the pivotal role in the movie Mankatha opposite Shah Rukh Khan. She is now busy in her own franchise of action films in Pakistan.

The late M.I. Hussain has been voted as the best female character in Anjuman over the decades. She was the first female superstar, who earned the rank of an all time best actress in a non Hindi film in India. Her name is synonymous with super heroes in Pakistan and is known for her lovable and admirable character. Her legendary and prolific career spanned over 20 years in the industry, making her one of the most successful Punjabi actresses of all times.

Her last name, ‘Hussain’ is a common name in Punjab, which is how the film writers chose it for the character of Anjuman. She has gone on to receive many other awards for her role in Anjuman and also was nominated for anume kasya (film best actress) at the 2007 World Culture Festival in Berlin.

Her tough exterior masks a tender interior that understands the fragility of being a young girl from a poor family in Lahore and her desire to be a better person. Her most memorable and best-known role in Anjuman is Sarojini satirizing Indian religion in the movie. Sarojini’s selfishness and greedy ambition fuels the story of a young girl’s quest for material possessions and eventually gets her murdered. Anjuman is a film that won multiple awards at various film festivals worldwide, including the Best Picture award at the Golden Globe Awards, the Best Screenplay award at the Oscars and the best actress award at the MTV Movie Awards.
