Freida Pinto is an Indian-born actress who has starred mostly in British and American movies. Born and brought up in Mumbai, she eventually decided at a very young age to be an actress. She participated in amateur theater plays while a student at St. Xavier’s College. Later on, after her family came to USA, Freida spent two years in Washington D.C. where she acted in various plays and films such as Pretty Woman (earlier known as Betty Boop), Manhattansay, India’s answer to Grease, A Street Cat, and others.
Eventually, while in London, Pinto went to the Central Park Zoo to see an elephant show and was fascinated by the way the animals were being handled. In the late eighties, Pinto appeared in a number of Indian movies and was known for her work in such movies as Pazmina, Babu, and the Hindi movie, Anarkali. She finally won the best actress award at the MTV Asia Awards in the category of Best Female award. Later, Pinto appeared in a string of British films, most notably a role in Love Actually. After that film came Kung Mangai wa Mankh ka? which did not do well in the cinemas.

Then, at the start of the nineties, Freida started appearing in English literature. She wrote a novel entitled Human Nature which concentrated on Mumbai’s slums. Another novel, The Place of Execution, explored the murder mystery behind Indian politics. Her last book, Bombay Dreams was about a group of people in their thirties who went to Bollywood to seek happiness and became the biggest hit in the whole world.
Freida Pinto’s Bengali movies are not remembered fondly by many people in the U.S. or Europe because of her British accent. Pinto did try to give her British accent when speaking in Hindi films but her attempt failed. Pinto was born iniholkath, Bengal, India and grew up in Mumbai. She worked hard for the duration of her career in the Bengali movie industry.
Freida Pinto first came to the attention of Indianoscopy as a member of the MTV team in the late eighties. She was also an important member of the team of Bhumika in the late eighties. A new face for the MTV network, Freida Pinto was seen by a lot of people as the new face of Bengali cinema. She was seen as a new breed of female actor in the Indian films and was even considered a saviour of Bengalis who had been previously sidelined in the film industry. Some of the iconic scenes from her film “Slumdog Millionaire” features her in a maid’s house in the beginning of the movie, while the climax sees her amidst the trash people, which makes her look like a real trash person.
Freida Pinto’s Biography has been made into a biopic, a musical, a comedy and an autobiography. She has acted in some more Hollywood films like Bridget Jones Diary and Raising Helen. Her notable co-stars in her filmography include Anjinder Kohli, Sharukh Khan and Madhubala Murthy. Freida Pinto also costarred with Om Puri in the film Eat Pray Love. She has gone on to star in a number of other award winning films and has become a name in her own right.
