Barbara Carrano is one of the first Puerto Rican actors to make a name for himself in Hollywood. Born in Puerto Rico, she earned a degree in drama at the University of San Francisco before getting a feature part in Mildred Loving, an acclaimed play written by Aaron Crane. She went on to star in other notable plays such as The Heartbreak Kid, Man in the Mirror and Once Dead. For her part, she said that A Time to Kill was her first experience playing a character as a Bond girl. During this time, she managed to establish a name for herself as an actress in both films and theatre.

Barbara Carrano’s notable career includes appearances in Alfred Lord Tennyson’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, Don Ed Hardy’s “The Princess and the Pea”, and George C. Scott’s “The Bodyguard”. Apart from this, she is known for her appearances on television, and particularly in “The Sopranos”. Her most popular and long-lasting role was as a series’ protagonist, Carmela in the television series “The Sopranos”. She is also responsible for the creation of many characters including Tony Soprano’s family, The Greek’s wife, Carmela, and his friend, Carmela’s sister, Nucky. Barbara Carrano is one of the few leading ladies in Hollywood who can be considered a complete character, with each of her stories maintaining an arc which consistently finds her in the position of being a protagonist in the end. Her numerous and varied characters have kept the popularity of her career soaring over the decades.

Most of Barbara Carrano’s (and those of her characters), best-known works are the TV movies and TV shows she has been involved in. Her TV performances include such classics as “The Sopranos” for which she received an Oscar nomination, as well as “E.T.” For which she won the Satellite Award for her work in the film. However, her most notable and well-known TV role was as the cynical and strong-willed Emphysema in the long-running soap opera, “The Firm”.
