Catherine Burns was an American screenwriter, actress and producer. She is best known for her roles as Holly Golightly in the films “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. She also had some screenplays written that she did not act in but was involved in. Her screenplays were “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street” and “Ladies of Leisure”. She has also had a role in the musical, “Hairspray”.

When Catherine Burns was a child she was always interested in acting and writing. At the age of twelve she tried out for the chorus part on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” but was not selected. She then attended the University of Alabama where she studied drama. Later in her life she went to study in New York City where she continued her acting career. She was also interested in writing for publications and this is where she got her start.

Catherine Burns was born in Chicago, Illinois in September of 1945. Her father was a carpenter and her mother was a talented writer. At the age of twelve she was discovered acting in plays in Chicago. She had one experience when she was cut from her first acting school but found it very interesting. The first of her four films was “Last of the Unjust” in 1946. She then appeared in “Irene”, “A Woman For Him”, “A Man for Her”, “A Time to Marry” and “The Bad Sister” in which she played the role of Kitty Kalingue. At the age of twenty-one she decided to quit her acting career and concentrate on her writing career. However, Catherine didn’t have any luck in this area and began to appear in movies again in the following years.

When Catherine Burns was cast for the second part of “Eggs”, the producers of that show were not satisfied with her performance and asked her to change costumes and do some costume fittings. This was not easy for her because she was not used to wearing different costumes. Her fans were very upset at this turn of events and they began to send flowers to her house on June 1989.

It was also rumored that after the end of “Eggs”, Catherine Burns may have considered quitting acting altogether. On the day of the premiere of the third “Eggs” film “Madea”, a statue of Burns was put up at the entrance of her apartment building. This was done to bring her “some recognition”. Since then Catherine has appeared in the movies “Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County” as herself, appeared in an episode of “Raising Helen” as a hotel receptionist and finally appeared on the television series “Heroes”. All in all, Catherine Burns is no longer the famous name that she used to be in the past, but she still retains her place in the hearts of America and people around the world.
