She was married to Richard Lewis, the producer of such films as Shrek (PE), The Lawnmower Man (PG), and Saturday Night Live (SNL).
A native of New York City, Leslie Browne was brought up in poverty. Her father, fearing that her budding talent would be wasted if she became an actress, forced Leslie to take up dancing as a young girl. In fact, she could barely walk, and instead of studying classical dancing styles, she focused on hip-hop and jazz. As a teenager, she landed herself a role on Broadway, where she played the original role of Jeanette Deeping.

Leslie browne grew up in the inner city of Los Angeles. She is described as a “fiery” and “brash” actress who enjoyed performing street magic shows as a child, and who later appeared in films such as Saturday Night Fever (arily starring Richard Castellano).
Leslie’s life was documented in the book by her biographer, Michael J Fox. Browne was born in New York City, the second of six children. She was the middle child and grew up in a poor housing project in the West Bronx. Her family was poor too, and her younger sister called her Peaches, although their grandmother called her Honey. Leslie was an avid reader as a child, and she cherished a long letter she wrote to her great aunt, which was one of her only real words of love: “I miss you so much honey, I can hardly bear to live without you.”
Leslie’s first professional acting gig was playing a dancer in an amateur production of Nutcracker in Broadway. This led to a role in the popular TV series Lemonade, and she also appeared in the award-winning film adaptation of the play. Later that decade, she gained further recognition for her starring role in the award-winning film adaptation of The Little Sister. A career in movies and dancing followed, and she became known as a brilliant dancer both on stage and off, and she has been nominated for a number of awards for this distinguished achievement.
At the turn of the seventies, another of America’s most respected and revered ballerinas, Bette Midler, gave birth to one of the most beloved characters in the history of American television, Phyllis Diller. Diller was cast as a sexy, spunky young dancer in the musical Hair. It was an immediate success, and Midler was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Musical. A few years later, she was equally good at the dancing arts when she starred in the movie adaptation of A Midsummer’s Night Dream. It was then that she earned a second Academy Award for Best Actress in a Musical, for the same role.
Today, Leslie Browne continues to practice her beautiful footwork in both the small world of ballroom dancing and the larger world of Hollywood. She is probably best known for her starring role as Phyllis Diller in Hair, but she also appeared in other successful films such as Anjuna, Big, and Boyz II Men. She is now a successful acting actor, choreographer, and singer, and has achieved not only great success in her own acting career, but also with projects outside the theater. Her dance career has also flourished into movies, as she can be seen in both Big and Boyz II Men, and there are multiple music singles, including an album and several videos, from which you can judge her greatness. So make sure to take your cue from Leslie Browne when it comes to new looks, styles, and clothing for yourself this winter. You will thank yourself when the cold weather starts to bite.
