Pearl Bailey is an American singer-actor-dancer famous for her Broadway appearances and movies. Born in Spring, 1918, Pearl Bailey was named after her maternal grandmother. She grew up in Newport News, Virginia, where her father worked as a surveyor. At the age of fifteen, Bailey started her stage career by appearing at an amateur competition at an outdoor auditorium in Philadelphia. During this performance, she impressed the judges with her vocal range and ability to sing and dance beautifully.
